Privacy policy

This page explains, simply, what information Zetboo processes, why and for how long, and how you can stay in control of your data. We have no interest in collecting more than necessary: Zetboo does not sell your data.

1. Who is responsible

The data controller is the publisher of Zetboo, Thierry P. For any question about your data or to exercise your rights: thierry@zetboo.com.

2. The data we process

Your account

• A username, which is also your address on the service, visible to other members.
• Your e-mail address, used to confirm the account and regain access. It is not shown to other members.
• Your password, which the server does not keep in clear text.

Your profile (optional)

You can add an avatar, a display name, a bio, your gender, your orientation, your date of birth and your relationship status. None of this is required.

Please note: this information can be seen by other members. The gender and orientation you enter determine the color of your avatar's border, and the profile card shows what you filled in. Sexual orientation is sensitive data: only fill it in if you are comfortable with it being visible. You can change or erase it at any time from your profile; we only process it because you give it to us.

Your messages and files

• The messages in rooms and private conversations, replies, reactions, "sent / read" indicators and the sending time go through our server, which keeps an archive so that you can find your history.
• The photos, voice messages and files you send are stored on our server so they can be shown to their recipients, and are checked by an antivirus.
• These messages and files are automatically deleted after 30 days.
• Exchanges are protected in transit by an encrypted connection, but they are not end-to-end encrypted: the server administrator technically has access to them. They are only consulted for maintenance, security or to handle a report.

Audio and video calls

Calls go directly from one browser to the other when possible, or through a Zetboo relay server when the network requires it. They are not recorded. Your browser asks your permission to use the microphone and camera.

Visit statistics

To know how many people visit the site, we use Matomo, a statistics tool that we host ourselves. It records the approximate country, region and city, the browser language, an IP address reduced to its first two numbers and a visitor identifier unrelated to your identity. This data is only used to count visits, it is not resold and there is no advertising on Zetboo.

What is kept in your browser

Zetboo remembers a few preferences in your browser (local storage, no advertising cookie) for your comfort: your wallpaper, your unread messages, your visited, created and favorite rooms, and the state of some settings. Your password is never written to your device: it stays in memory for the duration of the session. You can erase everything by clearing the site's data in your browser.

External services

To be displayed, the site loads items hosted by third parties: fonts (Google Fonts) and some code libraries (unpkg and jsDelivr). Like any site you visit, these services receive your IP address and technical information about your browser, under their own policies. We send them no information about your account.

3. Why we use this data

• To run the service you ask for: create your account, log you in, deliver your messages, display your profile (performance of a contract).
• To ensure security and moderation: antivirus, fighting abuse, handling reports (legitimate interest and legal obligations).
• To measure visits anonymously in order to improve the site (legitimate interest).
• The optional information in your profile is only processed with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by erasing it.

4. How long

• Messages and files: 30 days.
• Account and profile: as long as your account exists. They are deleted when you ask for your account to be deleted.
• Visit statistics: in anonymous form, for the time needed to analyze them.
• Some information may be kept longer when the law requires it or to deal with a dispute.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your data and do not hand it to any advertiser. What you write in a room is seen by the people in that room; what you write privately is only seen by the person you write to. The server is run by the publisher. Your data is only given to an authority if the law requires it.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to correct it, to erase it, to restrict its processing or to object to it, to ask for a copy of what you provided (portability) and to withdraw your consent when it is the basis for processing. Most profile information can be changed directly from your profile.

Deleting your account: write to thierry@zetboo.com from your account's e-mail address. We then delete your account, your profile and the associated data, in principle within 30 days. Deletion directly from the profile is planned.

If you believe your rights are not being respected, you can file a complaint with the data protection authority of your country.

7. Security

Connections to the site are encrypted, passwords are not kept in clear text, files are scanned by an antivirus, and access to the server is reserved for the administrator. No system is perfect: if an incident affected your data, we would inform you, as well as the competent authority where the law requires it.

8. Minors

Zetboo is reserved for people aged 18 and over. If you think a minor has created an account, report it to thierry@zetboo.com: the account will be deleted.

9. Changes

This policy may change. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page; in case of an important change, we will let you know on the site.
